Library Director

Douglas County, Alexandria, MN (county pop. 34,156) is seeking a Library Director. The Alexandria Region is one of the fastest growing communities in Greater (Central) Minnesota. The natural beauty of the lakes area along with the strong and well-balanced local economy which includes: manufacturing, healthcare, education, service, retail, and tourism, gives the Alexandria region a quality of life and access to infrastructure that few metropolitan communities can rival.

Minimum requirements: ALA accredited MLS, at least 5 years of progressively responsible library experience of which 3 years must be in library management, experience developing and managing a budget, valid MN driver’s license.

This position requires strong personnel management and training skills, evidence of strong communication skills both verbal and written, budgetary and general management experience in a public library as well as working collaboratively with a library board and local government groups. Fundraising, grant writing experience and the desire to support Friends of the Library activities along with the ability to work well with a diverse community, evidence of innovative programming, experience in building management and/or renovation projects and experience with and understanding of emerging technologies in the information field is also preferred.

We are looking for a person to be a positive and active promoter of the library locally and regionally. Salary 29.67 to 39.06 - FLSA Exempt. Appointing Authority: Douglas County Library Board. Job description and physical requirements available upon request.
